Faulk got a good view of his handiwork from the backfield.
"Im always the decoy when I draw up plays," he said. "Isnt that funny?"
Martz tweaked the play just a bit. Torry Holt had been Faulks choice to throw the ball, but the coach wanted Bruce, whos 2-for-2 this year.
"Mike switched it around," Faulk said. "I guess Torry failed at throwing the ball once or twice, so hes out."
Most of Faulks plays arent trick plays. Thats Martzs forte. More often, Faulk will notice little things like blocking assignments or pass routes that are getting double-teamed, which would free another receiver.
"When he comes off the field he can tell me exactly how theyre accounting for him in the passing game, particularly on third down," Martz said. "Some of those things you cant quite see from the sideline or the box. ..."

With Holt having a career year, Bruce has been overlooked somewhat by the national media -- but not by opposing defenses.
In fact, coaches told Pro Football Weekly on Monday that Bruce continues to see more double coverage than Holt because of his unique ability to get off the line and in and out of his cuts at full speed, which makes him an absolute bear to cover on quick slant routes.
Burdened by hamstring injuries earlier in his career, Bruce has stayed in the best shape of his life. A quiet team leader who is tighter with upper management than any player on the team, he has every intention of finishing his career with the Rams (his current contract goes through the 2006 season).
And because he depends more on his outstanding cutting ability than his speed, our sources believe he could last as long as Jerry Rice if he wanted.
One more thing about Bruce: PFW contends his blocking, the most under-appreciated aspect of his game, has never been better this season. ...
