"I tell you what: I learned a lot about myself, a lot about the NFL game, about the business, about everything that is encompassed in this game, thats going to make me a better person and a better player in the long run," said Brees, a second-round pick in 2001. "Its something I think a lot of quarterbacks go through. At the time, you wish you werent going through it. Its tough and its difficult, and emotionally youre trying to make things work, and at times theyre not. I just think that this is going to be a positive for me."
And according to Paris, Brees is relaxed and ready for todays game.
"I dont think theres pressure," he said. "I know what kind of player I am and will be. Im nowhere near what I will be. Like I said, I believe everything happens for a reason. You just have to draw a positive from everything that happens.
"I think Ive always been able to do that, no matter what happens in life or football. Like I said, I am a totally different player and have a different mentality now than I did at the beginning of the season, just from the experiences Ive gone through. I think its really going to pay off for me in the future. I believe that theres no doubt that Im going to be a great player, that this team is going to be a great team, and that were going to be able to take this thing wherever we want to go -- soon."
But the sad fact is, even if Brees gets the job done today, it might not be soon enough to convince management to stick with him.
