McNair, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Ravens running back Jamal Lewis are considered the top three candidates for the award. A survey conducted by Legwold with four games to play showed McNair as the top pick among a majority of MVP voters who responded.
However, McNairs calf injury kept him out of one game and the Titans went 1-2 in the other games, including a loss to the Colts at the Coliseum. ...
On a more positive note, Legwold suggests that head coach Jeff Fisher may have a little more incentive to start McNair over backup Neil ODonnell.
With a Tennessee win over Tampa Bay and an Indianapolis loss at Houston, the Titans would win the AFC South and play host to a playoff game. With the possibility of winning the division still looming, Fisher said its a "tough call" to decide which players should rest and which players should play.
"We want to win this game," Fisher said. "But it makes sense to (rest some players). We may be forced to do some of that because we may have a number of players that arent 100 percent."
McNair leads the NFL in passer rating (100.4) and has thrown a career high 24 touchdowns. Asked this week if McNair or Manning should be MVP, Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp said McNair.
"No matter what it is, or how he does or how he gets to the ballgame, hes ready to perform for his ballclub in the best way possible," Sapp said. "Thats all you can ask when youre talking about a quarterback.
"Missing a week of practice, thats sick. Thats sick to be able to play under those terms."
Needless to say, Ill keep a close on pregame activities in Tennessee this morning and pass along the decision on McNair as quickly as possible.
