Starting tailback Michael Bennett was back on the practice field Friday, after being given the past two days off as a precaution, and looked strong, head coach Mike Tice said.
Bennett has been hobbled by a right ankle injury since injuring it Dec. 7 against Seattle.
Onterrio Smith (thigh) and Moe Williams (knee) are close to 100 percent after playing hurt the past couple of weeks. Williams was injured against Seattle, and Smith was banged up the next week at Chicago.
"The three running backs are as healthy as theyve been in three or four weeks," Tice said.
The official company line remains unchanged: Bennett will start, but Smith and Williams will get plenty of carries. Williams is the teams short-yardage back, and Smith proved the past two weeks that he can be an every-down back. The fourth-round draft pick had 147 yards (a team rookie record) in a start against the Bears with Bennett out, and then had 146 yards in a backup role against Kansas City last Saturday.
