"They certainly do a good number of things on defense and were going to ask Rex to get us in and out of some plays at some point. But obviously you have to limit them to a degree."
Characterized by Mayer as "confident but not cocky," Grossman expects to succeed against a Chiefs defense that ranks 31st in the league.
"There may not be as many checks at the line and it may be a little harder to communicate some things," Grossman said, "but sometimes when you go on the road as a team you kind of rally together and sometimes you can get some energy off that.
"Its just going to be a different aspect to it, but we intend to have the same game plan weve had the last couple of weeks, and if we can run the ball and convert third downs, we should have a good shot to win the game."
More comfortable and accurate than in his initial start, the first-round pick completed 19 of 32 passes for 249 yards with 2 TDs and 1 interception in last weekends win over Washington.
In Grossmans two games, the Bears sustained drives by converting 15 of 31 third down opportunities (48.4 percent). Against the Redskins, the former Florida star completed 8 of 13 passes on third down for 89 yards including an 11-yard TD to rookie receiver Justin Gage.
"Im impressed with his poise," Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said of Grossman. "Im impressed with his decision-making. Hes thrown (only) one interception.
"And of course theyre utilizing him properly. They dont put a lot of pressure on him right now. Theyre letting him run the team rather than him being the singled-out savior. They dont put too much pressure on him."
Grossman and running back Anthony Thomas, who rushed for 141 yards on 27 carries, helped the Bears offense generate a season-high 429 yards against the Redskins and leap five spots in the league rankings from 32nd to 27th.
The Bears insist that the scheme Grossman is running is the same that veteran quarterbacks
