"Its the only criticism I would have," Bledsoe said. "At times, he may be asking too much of some guys from the standpoint of thinking on their feet."
Of course, Bledsoe has missed his share of receivers who were open and appeared less accurate even when he had the time. All told, with the running game not working, the receivers not getting open and the quarterback not playing well, the Bills offense became inept. Its ranked 30th going into the final weekend of the season.
The Bills actually began falling apart against todays opponent -- the Patriots -- last season.
Bledsoe threw for 302 yards, but much of his production came while the Bills were playing catch-up in a 38-7 loss. Bledsoe has since thrown 19 touchdowns and 21 interceptions, and the Bills are 9-14. His passer rating was 94.8 through the first eight games last season, but it is 75.6, ninth in the AFC and 19th in the league, through 15 games this year.
Bledsoe also has not thrown deep, partly because it has been almost impossible for him to wait long enough to go long. He still has a very strong arm, but the difference is he doesnt have any true speed receivers. Last year, he threw five touchdown passes of 40 or more yards. This year, with Moulds hurt and nobody filling the hole left by Peerless Price, Bledsoe has thrown only one touchdown pass longer than 40 yards. Hes thrown none in the past 13 weeks.
"It hasnt been a deal where I was good last year and I (stink) this year," Bledsoe said. "Thats not what it is. Its a factor of the way weve played offensively, with myself included. We havent played well, and I havent played well. When that happens, it can snowball. Last year, when we made mistakes, we could cover up by making a big play. We havent made many big plays. ..."
