How Do I Play Fantasy Football

"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Over the past few years, technology has allowed the interfaces for online drafts to become much more user-friendly, meaning that beginners and experts alike can easily select an entire team in a short period of time.

Continues To Shine In Red Zone...','In an article published Thursday, JournalNews.com staff writer Kit Stier reminded readers that from the from the start of last season, including the 2002 playoffs and through Game 12 of this season, Chad Pennington has thrown 27 touchdown passes while working from inside the red zone and has not been intercepted.

What brought that number to light was the fact that Pennington was nearly picked off in the first half on Monday night, but Titans right cornerback Samari Rolle juggled the ball as he fell out of the back end of the end zone.

"Focus and intensity in the huddle is turned up a notch inside the red zone," Pennington said, adding that coaches emphasize preparation for work inside the red zone. "Those are opportunities that you cant let pass by. You cant give them back."

Patience also plays a part.

"Yes, because when you are in the red zone its much tighter, the defense doesnt have as much room to cover," Pennington said. "But you cant allow yourself to fall into the trap to fire something in there because you have to come away with some kind of points. Especially on the road. ..."

Other notes of interest. ...

In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly noted the Jets have been able to find new success in the running game of late, and the improvement seems to have been a cooperative effort.

First off, the offensive line is playing better, although it still isnt perfect up the middle. Second, Penningtons presence has sparked the offense as a whole and taken a lot of the focus off the running game. Teams have been forced to respect Penningtons arm, even off a six-game layoff, and that has added balance on offense.

Curtis Martin seems to be running with more authority than he had been through the first quarter of the season. ...

In a related note. ...

LaMont Jordan hasnt had a carry in two games because he broke a bone in his left hand against Indianapolis and has
