up at the end of the season," Alexander said. "Last year, we all seemed to get hot (on offense), but its just one of those things that Ive always done at every level. ... To be a good spark at the end of the year, and Im just trying to keep it going."
Holmgren said Alexander might have his 1,500 yards by now, if not for the way he runs.
"I say this, and sometimes he gets upset with me when I say it," Holmgren said. "I think there are probably a couple hundred yards in a season that he gives away by messing around with it too much. But you cant really complain too much. Hes got great numbers, hes scored a lot of touchdowns, hes serious about scoring."
Alexander can be counted on for productivity, and hes good at finding the holes, but the criticism he has always heard is that he dances around with the ball instead of charging through openings. But the paths paved by Seattles offensive line and fullback Mack Strong have been so immense lately that Alexander has been able to break into the clear for some long runs.
Alexander scored on a 44-yard run Sunday, and averaged 6.4 yards per carry. He has averaged better than five yards a carry his past four games, and has five of his 13 rushing touchdowns in that span.
No matter how he gets there, he finds the end zone. Alexander has been and continues to be the Seahawks main touchdown maker. Uncharacteristically, though, he lost two fumbles last week.
"Hes trying to do everything he possibly can, and that includes, first of all, hes got to hold onto the ball," said Stump Mitchell, the Seahawks running-backs coach. "He understands the importance of that, and we cant have anything like that this weekend. But Shaun is doing well. Hes blocking pretty good, hes catching the ball and. ... Fumbling the ball, that hurt him more than anybody, because he loves scoring touchdowns."
One of Alexanders fumbles came at the Arizona 1-yard line.
"Even though we had a couple of fumbles on Sunday, hes not a fumbler," Holmgren said. "I think he knows. I think the whole team, all the guys recognize what we have a chance
