has asked Croom, who has been on his staff since 2001, to stay as long as possible to help the Packers make a playoff push.
On Tuesday Croom said hed continue in his post in Green Bay through the end of the regular season.
But he backtracked Wednesday, noting the difficulty of working two full-time jobs. This week, hes helping prepare a game plan for the Bears while also calling recruits and targeting coaches for his new staff.
Former Packers running back Edgar Bennett, who has been serving as Crooms apprentice since offseason mini-camps, will coach the running backs whenever Croom has to tend to his new duties. ....

In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly noted that coaches have opted to start Robert Ferguson opposite Donald Driver because Ferguson is the teams most physical and best run-blocking receiver.
Ferguson, the Packers believe, can still become a valuable part of the pass offense, and thus they will keep him on the field, choosing to disregard his minimal statistical production in the passing game.
Ferguson and Walker, who caught his sixth TD pass of the season last week at Detroit and not so quietly has emerged as the Packers big-play receiver, are viewed as Nos. 2 and 2A by the coaching staff.
Walker held a slight advantage over Ferguson for the starting spot at one point in training camp, but Ferguson nudged ahead.
One reason the Packers may not be riding Walker for 35 or 40 snaps a game is his stamina. Walker came into his second year in the league with an extra 18-20 pounds of muscle.
Two months into the season, Walker had dropped back down near 205 from the 220 range. He has good size, strength and speed, but the Packers wont overuse a weapon if it isnt mandatory. ...
