1985, catching 92 passes and rushing for 1,050 yards. With eight catches Sunday against Oakland, Tomlinson could become the first player in league history to catch 100 passes and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.
Tomlinson also is in the hunt to be the AFCs leading receiver this year. Entering this weekends games, his 92 receptions are tied with Indianapolis Marvin Harrison for second in the conference, just one reception behind Pittsburghs Hines Ward, who has 93.
Tomlinson has rushed for 11 touchdowns this season, making him the only player in Chargers history to rush for 10 or more touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. He is only the fifth player in league history to do it, joining such stellar company as Emmitt Smith, Eric Dickerson, Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders. Tomlinson rushed for 10 touchdowns as a rookie and 14 last year.
With one receiving or rushing touchdown on Sunday, Tomlinson will set a personal record for touchdowns in a season. He has 15 total touchdowns this year (11 rushing, four receiving), tying last years mark when he rushed for 14 and caught one.
Through three seasons, Tomlinson has rushed for 35 touchdowns, putting him in third place on the Chargers all-time list behind Chuck Muncie (43) and Paul Lowe (38). Tomlinson also trails Lowe in career rushing yards. Lowe had 4,972, while Tomlinson has 4,321.
Tomlinson enters Sundays game 63 combined yards shy of a new team record. He has 2,110 yards this season (1,402 rushing, 708 receiving). Last year, he established the team record for combined yards from scrimmage with 2,172 (1,683 rushing, 489 receiving).
Tomlinson is in a tight race for the most combined yards from scrimmage in the NFL this year. Entering this weekends games, Baltimores Jamal Lewis has 2,144 total yards, 34 more than Tomlinsons 2110. In turn, Tomlinson is eight yards ahead of New Orleans Deuce McAlister, who has 2,102.
