for free agency, but the Jaguars will let Brunell go, the Rams are prepared to part with Warner because of Marc Bulgers emergence and the 49ers have Tim Rattay, who has showed promise and is younger and much cheaper than Garcia.
While Fiedler, who will turn 32 next week, is finishing a down year, Warner, Brunell and Garcia also come with questions.
Warner, 32, was the NFL MVP in 1999 and 2001, but like Fiedler, he hasnt been healthy.
Brunell started for the past eight seasons and the first three games this year for Jacksonville before being replaced by rookie Byron Leftwich. But Brunell will be 34 in September and has taken a lot of hits the past few seasons, meaning there are questions about his health as well.
Garcia also will be 34 next season. With 2,456 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, hes having his least productive season since first becoming the starter in 1999.
As for Fiedler, he has been inconsistent this season, particularly with accuracy, and has hurt the Dolphins with ill-timed interceptions. Those factors havent allowed the Dolphins to capitalize when opponents gear up to stop running back Ricky Williams.
Fiedlers intangibles, along with his athleticism, appear to be his strengths. The Dolphins clearly responded to Fiedler when he replaced Griese late against the Washington Redskins and led them to a victory, and four days later, Fiedler had his best performance of the season in a 40-21 Thanksgiving victory at Dallas.
But he played poorly in the first six games before being sidelined by a knee injury, and that late-season surge didnt last. In 11 games and 10 starts, Fiedler has passed for 1,810 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Only three quarterbacks have a lower passer rating than Fiedlers 68.9, and two, Oaklands Rick Mirer and Atlantas Doug Johnson, were injury replacements.
What Fiedlers numbers dont measure is an inconsistent offensive line, the lack of production from receivers other than Chris
