NFL receivers have scored more touchdowns than Walker, who has considerably fewer catches than the others. His one touchdown every 4.22 catches ranks second only to Baltimores Marcus Robinson (4.16) among those with 25 receptions or more this season.
"Its exciting and its motivating because I know Im at a point in my career where I can be so much better," Walker said. "What were doing now as receivers lets me know what we can do in the future."
What Ferguson has accomplished so far is worth marveling at because he was left for dead after a forgettable rookie year. The Packers took Ferguson ahead of University of Wisconsin product Chris Chambers in the second round of the 2001 draft and then watched as the two players careers went in opposite directions.
Chambers had an immediate impact on the Miami Dolphins and has scored 20 touchdowns in his three seasons in the NFL. It took Ferguson almost two years to get his feet under him, but in the last two months he has emerged as one of the most reliable players on the team.
"I had to eat a lot of [expletive] on him," former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, who selected Ferguson in his final draft, told Silverstein. "But he looked like he belonged the other night. He reminded me so much of (former San Francisco receiver) John Taylor when we drafted him. Hes coming on."
Of all the receivers, Ferguson has been the most diverse. He runs slants, goes over the middle, crosses the field and goes deep. In the last three games, he has caught passes of 20, 27, 40 and 47 yards.
Whats more, hes the best run-blocking receiver the Packers have, one of their best tacklers on special teams and an effective kickoff returner. If he were ever given an opportunity to just focus on being a receiver, his game might reach another level. ...
