"It was funny all of those things happened and were here today in the same place," Dent said. "Its on a football card, so I guess it was a good hit. Both of us are going to autograph it. Thats something Ive never done before."
Kordell Stewarts first pass came in the 10th game of his rookie season in 1995. Pittsburgh was hosting Cleveland on "Monday Night Football," and the Steelers reached the Browns 2-yard line when Stewart lined up in the shotgun, with quarterback Neil ODonnell sprinting out left as a wide receiver. Stewart rolled right and was supposed to hit Yancey Thigpen, who was double covered, so he ran back across the field before lofting a touchdown pass to Ernie Mills.
"That was the birth of Slash," he said. "From that point on, everything was good."
Shoop and Olson kept going over the game plan as the days got closer to the game with Minnesota last Sunday, and kept bringing up the same play, but they werent sure how Grossman would react. Convinced it was the thing to do, they approached him as if they were recruiting a college player to make their pitch. Talk about easy sells.
