How Do I Play Fantasy Football

"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Over the past few years, technology has allowed the interfaces for online drafts to become much more user-friendly, meaning that beginners and experts alike can easily select an entire team in a short period of time.

6480,18,16,'Can Jets Run Defense Help Tepid Rushing Attack?','As Boston Herald staff writer Kevin Mannix put it this morning: "So whats the polar opposite of the immovable object meeting the irresistible force? Simple: The Patriots running game against the Jets run defense. Thats a movable object meeting resistible force.

Of course, well all, get to see that "collision" tonight, when the Pats attempt to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 11 and their overall record to 13-2.

On one side is the Patriots rushing attack, which ranks 31st in a 32-team league in average gain per attempt. On the other is the Jets run defense, which ranks 31st in yards allowed (149) per game and has held only three of its 14 opponents to fewer than 100 yards on the ground.

However, two of those took place in the past three games.

The Steelers gained just 94 rushing yards in a 6-0 loss in the snow a week ago, while the Titans picked up only 84 yards on 22 carries in the Jets 24-17 victory two weeks earlier.

Mannix went on to point out that Kevin Faulk has been the featured runner for most of the season, but as the weather has deteriorated, Antowain Smith has been more involved despite the fact that hes had trouble generating much yardage when hes had the ball. For the season, Smith has 447 yards on 149 attempts -- a 3.0 average.

He stepped into the featured role in the past two games, despite the fact that hes averaged 2.2 yards an attempt in those games. A straight ahead runner, he can pick up a yard or two on his own, something thats necessary since the offensive line hasnt been generating a lot of running room.

While Smith has had 44 carries in the snow of the last two games, Faulk has become a third-down back, running only 16 times for 54 yards -- most of them on draw plays in passing situations.

On the dry field expected tonight, Faulk could get more snaps on the early downs.

The Jets have struggled all season in trying to shut down running games. Even the Pats had success pounding away
