86 catches tie him for second in the AFC with Pro Bowler Marvin Harrison of the Colts, but also show how much of the load hes carried.
David Boston, given a $47 million contract by the Chargers, averages just five catches per game. Boston was suspended for one game by the team for insubordination and ruled himself out of another with a bruised heel.
Tomlinson said hed be motivated by the snub.
"I feel like Im going to work my tail off harder than I ever worked before, and when I come back, Ill be MVP of the league next year."
In the meantime, 2003 has been a roller-coaster ride for Tomlinson, whos been slowed by both inconsistent play-calling and the fact the Chargers have fallen behind early so many times. Hes been held to two of the three lowest single-game totals in his career, 29 and 34 yards, while also having games of 200, 187 and 162 yards.
In a related note....
Tomlinson returned to practice on Friday as expected after missing two days of work with a sore toe. Tomlinson and Boston, listed as probable with a sore neck, are both expected to start and play as usual against the Steelers.
The Chargers will be waiting to see about the status of wide receiver Reche Caldwell, who was held out of Fridays practice after straining a hamstring during Thursdays workout.
Tight end Stephen Alexander will miss tomorrows game due to a lingering groin injury.
And finally....
In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly reported that Calgary Stampeders president Ron Rooke was scheduled to attend last weeks Chargers-Packers game to scout none other than Doug Flutie.
Rooke told the Calgary Herald that the idea of bringing Flutie back to the CFL is "definitely something wed go after" if he were to be released after this season.
Flutie said he hopes to return to the Chargers but added that he would consider heading back to Canada if his future doesnt lie in San Diego.','12/20/2003','5:00:00 AM','Saturday',906 6473,24,16,'Bettis
