But in a vote by fans, coaches and players -- each group counting a third -- Boldin made the team, along with three other receivers, St. Louis Torry Holt, San Franciscos Terrell Owens and Minnesotas Randy Moss.
Offensive coordinator Jerry Sullivan, a receivers coach for most of his career, was high on Boldin before the draft. The Cardinals hoped Boldin would be available in the second round, but they were nervous when they traded down in the round from 37th to the 54th pick.
"He got great credibility here early on from his teammates because they saw how tough he was," Sullivan said. "Hed go down and block somebody in a game, a lineman, without even thinking about it. Hell catch it over the middle, get pounded and get up, get back in the huddle and never complain. He practices every day, all the things you look for in a real pro."
He has scored seven touchdowns and never once pulled out a cellular phone to make an imaginary call, as New Orleans receiver Joe Horn did last week.
Boldin knows what his father, Carl, would do to him if that happened.
"Probably kill me," he said.

In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly noted that with the teams offense struggling in recent weeks, Blake was starting to annoy teammates by not taking more of the blame for the units ineptitude.
Last week, though, Blake made a much different impression, going out of his way to support and tutor Josh McCown, who made his first career start last Sunday.
PFW further noted their sources couldnt have been more impressed with the way Blake handled both McCown and the media.
That said, they also believe it behooves Blake to help McCown succeed, since he knows where he stands with the second-year pro and has a much better shot of retaining the No. 1 job than if the team selects a quarterback with its first-round draft pick. ...
