Shanahan indicated at his Wednesday press conference that the Broncos would "probably" practice just one day on the artificial surface. Friday became that day. With Sundays game taking place on one of the last three old-style artificial surfaces left in the NFL, the coach didnt want to risk re-injuring the ankle on the artificial surface.
"We didnt want him to cut on the turf," Shanahan said. "We just wanted him to catch a few passes and jog a little bit, and not overdo it. Anytime youve got 48 hours -- or a little bit more -- you want to take it gradually with those sprained ankles and see the strides he makes over the next two days."
For what its worth, if Portis cant go, Shanahan believes that Mike Anderson is ready for his most extensive work in the past three months.
Anderson hasnt posted more than seven carries in a game since September, when he hauled the football 16 times against the San Diego Chargers and 14 times a week later against the Oakland Raiders while Portis nursed a bruised sternum.
"Fifteen or 20 (carries), sure," Shanahan said. "Im not sure about 40, though."

Problem is, that hasnt been apparent on the field for Bledsoe in his 11th NFL season, and second with Buffalo.
A year after establishing 10 franchise records and finishing second in the NFL with 4,359 yards passing, Bledsoes numbers have declined
