could make his second straight start at tailback when the Washington Redskins play at Chicago on Sunday, head coach Steve Spurrier said Thursday.
Cartwrights play was one of the few bright spots for the Redskins in last Sundays 27-0 loss to the Cowboys. He rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries. With Trung Canidate (sprained foot) and Ladell Betts (fractured forearm) likely to remain sidelined, Spurrier said he plans to have Chad Morton and John Simon share the tailback duties with Cartwright, a converted fullback.
"Theyre our three tailbacks, in all likelihood," Spurrier said. "Rock is fine. Rock had a good game the other day. Looking back, obviously since we didnt throw very well, we should have given it to him more. Rock is a good, solid player. ..."
Also according to Maske, receiver Laveranues Coles sat out practice for a second day in a row but said he intends to play Sunday. He has played most of this season with a stress fracture in his right foot that could require offseason surgery.
He said yesterday that he is scheduled to be examined by Charlotte-based orthopedic specialist Robert Anderson after the season. Anderson performed surgery on Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramseys foot on Monday.
"Of course Im going to play," Coles said. "Ill finish the season."
Stay tuned. ... Ill have more on Coles later tonight or early tomorrow.','12/19/2003','10:45:00 AM','Friday',893 6460,16,16,'Williams Practicing; Says Sore Shoulder Wont Be An Issue...','According to the Associated Press, Ricky Williams expects no problems from his injured shoulder when the Dolphins travel to Buffalo on Sunday.
