He was placed on injured reserve to clear roster space for ODonnell.','12/18/2003','5:00:00 PM','Thursday',880 6447,20,16,'Hilliard Limited Thursday; Hopes To Play Sunday...','According to Giants.com staff writer Michael Eisen, Ike Hilliard, who missed last weeks loss in New Orleans with a knee injury, participated in practice on a limited basis and hopes to play in Dallas.
"He wants to go," head coach Jim Fassel said. "Hes been working and getting treatment. I asked him, Do you think you can go, and he said, Im going. I asked him how he feels and he said, All right, I want to play."
Hilliard said the pain in his knee hasnt subsided, but he wants to try to play regardless.
"Thats the way I feel," Hilliard said. "Physically, I dont know how its going to go. Ill try to go again tomorrow and well go from there. But I definitely want to play.
"This is something Ive dealt with for a little over a month-and-a-half now. It feels pretty much the same, so Id like to go out there and give it what I have for the last couple of weeks...."
Otherwise, the news wasnt as positive.
Kerry Collins arrived for work today with a fever and was sent home. He is still suffering from a high ankle sprain, and Fassel conceded for the first time today that is very likely Collins has played his last down of the 2003 season.
"I know he wants to come back and play," Fassel said. "But thats going to be a slow deal. I honestly dont see him coming back. The worst thing about high ankle sprains is that theyre very slow to come around. Very slow. You have to get the swelling out...."
Jeremy Shockey, who as named to this years Pro Bowl team today, has missed the last five games and will probably sit out the final two with a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee. When he was hurt against Atlanta on Nov. 9, Shockey was leading the team and all NFL tight ends with 48 receptions for 535 yards and two touchdowns.
