Also according to Roth, University of Miami product Willis McGahee would relish the chance to make his NFL debut against his hometown Dolphins, but its not likely to happen, particularly if the field is frozen and snow covered. McGahee, the Bills first-round pick, had major knee surgery in January.
"Hes worked very hard to get to this point of the year to get back out on the field, and everybody wants to play," head coach Gregg Williams said. "Well take a look at trying to make that happen, but Im not going to jeopardize (his future) the last two weeks of the season over a health issue with him. ..."
As reported by the Sports XChange, Williams, whose contract is up, has been unable to produce a playoff team in his three seasons and his overall record stands at 17-29. His predecessor, Wade Phillips, was 29-17 with two playoff teams and got fired, so whats that say about Williams chances of survival?
Not very much and most insiders expect him to be fired at seasons end.
Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, whose unit ranks 27th in totals yards, may have run out of time to save his job regardless of how the Bills fare against the playoff-contending Dolphins and Patriots. He is under contract through 2004.
As for players, quarterback Drew Bledsoe needs a big finish to quiet his list of growing critics. Five times this season he has been presented reasonable opportunities to lead fourth-quarter comebacks and only produced a victory once. The Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis and Tennessee games were all winnable but the Bills fell short by 4, 2, 3, and 2 points.
Second-year wide receiver Josh Reed, who didnt have a catch against the Titans and has been very disappointing in replacing Peerless Price (Atlanta), also needs to convince his bosses not to go searching for someone better, although its probably a foregone conclusion.
