How Do I Play Fantasy Football

"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Over the past few years, technology has allowed the interfaces for online drafts to become much more user-friendly, meaning that beginners and experts alike can easily select an entire team in a short period of time.

the locker room Wednesday carrying a boxed lunch and a drink and walking with a slight limp.

Thats about the only thing Davis is expected to carry this week.

With the Panthers unlikely to do any better than a No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs, its quite possible head coach John Fox will hold his top running back out of Sundays game against the Detroit Lions allowing him to rest his sore left ankle and knee.

That may be a good thing, as the Panthers will need their star player healthy come playoff time.

As Reed noted, since injuring his ankle, Davis hasnt been nearly as effective as he was the first half of the season. In the eight games prior to aggravating the ankle in a loss to the Houston Texans, Davis averaged 124 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry and posted a stunning six 100-yard rushing games.

In the five games hes played in since sitting out against Tampa Bay, Davis has averaged just 79 yards rushing per game and 3.4 yards per carry and has just one 100-yard rushing game.

After Sundays game Davis was asked how he felt, and he replied, "The ankle. The knee. Everything is hurting right now. Im glad we got a victory out of this, you know what Im saying?"

Davis said after the game he planned to be out on the field this Sunday with his teammates. And he probably will, only -- according to Reed -- hell be wearing a sweatsuit and not a uniform.

With Davis likely out, DeShaun Foster will see the bulk of the carries against the Lions and Rod Smart and Nick Goings could see some action in the backfield, too.

Fox said he held Davis out of part of Sundays win over Arizona after he got nicked out.

"He didnt have as many carries on Sunday as he normally does, and that has a lot to do with his yardage totals," Fox said.

But when asked if Davis is 100 percent healthy, Fox sidestepped the question as best as possible.

"Thats hard for me to say, percentage-wise," Fox said. "Hes been healthy enough to play. He had a very good week against Philadelphia, at least rushing the football.
