How Do I Play Fantasy Football

"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Over the past few years, technology has allowed the interfaces for online drafts to become much more user-friendly, meaning that beginners and experts alike can easily select an entire team in a short period of time.

Today; Looker, Furrey Standing By...','According to Associated Press sports writer R.B. Fallstrom, if Isaac Bruces sprained ankle keeps him out Sunday, the St. Louis Rams are confident their passing attack wont be grounded.

Two players culled from the fringes of professional football, Dane Looker and Mike Furrey, both have emerged this season.

Those two leave the Rams confident that Torry Holt, Bruces running mate, wont get blanketed this week by the Bengals in the home finale.

"Isaacs a great player," Marc Bulger said. "Were going to game-plan like were going to have him and I dont know if we would change if we didnt have him.

"If we dont, then Dane and Mike will step it up."

Looker, the 2002 World Bowl MVP award, this season has developed into a reliable No. 3 receiver for St. Louis. Hes filled the role that used to be held by Ricky Proehl, released after last season. Neither player has blazing speed, but both have sure hands and excel on third down.

"Third down is a down I take pride in to move the chains," Looker said. "When coach Martz calls my number, I hope to produce for him."

It was a long time coming. Looker first appeared in training camp with the Rams in 2000, but hes bounced around since. He didnt appear in a game until last season, and didnt catch a ball until this year.

Now hes third on the team with 41 catches for 443 yards and three touchdowns, including a highlight reel tiptoe down the sideline for a score against the Packers.

"It feels good that Ive overcome the odds and just kind of stuck with it," Looker said. "Now I believe I deserve to be here, I belong here, that I should keep making plays.

"And Im not going to dwell on what happened in the past."

Furrey was starring for the New York Dragons and leading the Arena Football League with 108 catches for 1,574 yards and 46 touchdowns before signing with the Rams in April. Hes been a favorite of Martz ever since.
