"I am real proud about it," Palmer said. "But there are a lot of Canadians who have played in the NFL and there will be a lot more, and there will be other quarterbacks who come down here and play. Its interesting trivia, but I have been making a lot of trivia lately."
During most of his two-plus seasons with the Giants, Palmer has been a big question mark. The fourth-round draft pick didnt play a regular-season down as a rookie and he only got into two games last season, completing 3-of-4 passes for 30 yards.
Palmer threw four more passes in a mop-up role against Atlanta earlier this season, but he didnt get his first extensive action until Collins was hurt early in the second half against the Redskins.
The former University of Florida product hit 7-of-11 passes for 83 yards, but he also was sacked five times, mostly because he held the ball too long.
"He has been studying a lot of tape," head coach Jim Fassel said. "He is prepared now. He should be prepared as a backup, but there is no question its a lot easier when you know you are going to start."
As comfortable as the Ottawa resident felt Friday, he knows it will be difficult to feel the same way Sunday night against New Orleans.
"I am going to have a lot of emotions in my head and a lot of things going on," Palmer said. "A lot is going to be excitement and anxiety, just a lot of energy. I am all fired up about it. It will be interesting to see what happens."

According to the Sports XChange, the Giants head into the final three games of their lost season with most of the focus on Fassel and his immediate future once that final game of the 2003 schedule has been played.
Most observers seem ready to concede that he will be dismissed, along with the entire coaching staff he has assembled, as a record that could be as low as 4-12 is found unacceptable by ownership and management.
