lists, he is only six points shy of passing Hutson as the most prolific scorer in the Packers 84-year history.
"It means a lot to me in regard to longevity in a tough place to kick," Longwell said. "Being the top scorer in any organization is a big deal, but to happen with the Packers -- thats pretty special."
Lambeau Field and Hutsons record have both proven resolute.
Hutson had 105 touchdowns, 172 extra points and seven field goals from 1935-45. He revolutionized the downfield passing attack and also had 30 interceptions as a safety.
"Hes the best player in franchise history, although Brett Favre certainly is a strong challenger," said Lee Remmel, the teams longtime spokesman and team historian who covered the final two years of Hutsons career for the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
"Don Hutson is the guy who invented pass patterns," Remmel said. "He dominated the game, and he ran like a deer."
Longwell knows all about Hutsons exploits.
"The thing is, the guy was so much more than a great Green Bay Packer," Longwell said. "He really changed the NFLs passing game to what it is today. So to be above a name like that is pretty amazing."
By breaking Hutsons record, Longwell will join Jason Elam and Adam Vinatieri as the only players in NFL history to score 100 points in each of their first seven seasons.
First, hell have to move past Chris Jacke, who was one field goal shy of Hutsons record when jettisoned on draft day in 1997. Thats when former general manager Ron Wolf selected Conway out of Penn State.
Longwell had played his senior season at Cal for Steve Mariucci, who took him to San Francisco when he became the 49ers coach. But the Niners then signed Gary Anderson, and the Packers claimed Longwell on waivers to make sure Conway didnt over-kick during training camp.
