looking for yardage in small chunks.
"As we did with Kordell [Stewart] and Chris [Chandler], well design our game plan to highlight things that Rex does well," Shoop said Thursday.
Bears fans fed up with short crossing routes and 5-yard hitches remain skeptical. They dont doubt Shoops sincerity as much as his spontaneity, the ability to throw caution to the wind for the sake of airing it out with a young quarterback who finally can.
But even the critics hold out hope Grossman will break free from the shackles of a scheme that has produced fewer yards than any other NFL team this season.
The insertion of Grossman as the starter offers promise of that possibility. But Bears offensive players know better than to make any promises.
"Were still running the same offense so I dont know what people expect," tight end Desmond Clark said. "Its pretty much the same plays with a few wrinkles here or there. Its all up to the play-calling because we have had some weeks where we did throw the ball downfield more than other weeks."

Asked if Grossmans tendencies suggest a more go-for-broke offensive approach Sunday, Shoop hedged.
"I do believe one of Rexs strengths is his arm strength and his ability to launch the ball from a lot of different angles deep, but things go into it," Shoop said.
