"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Zinser, the likelihood that tight end Jeremy Shockey will play again this season has become slimmer. Shockey practiced Wednesday, but his injured left knee swelled again and he hasnt practiced since.

He is officially listed as doubtful for tomorrow nights game but isnt expected to play.

The Giants have considered placing Shockey on injured reserve, but they will not do that unless they need his roster spot -- something that may have been forestalled when team officials ended Tim Carters season instead.

The Giants placed Carter on injured reserve Friday after a string of minor concussions did not clear up. Carter left two consecutive games with slight concussions, and coaches suspect he sustained another last Sunday against Washington; he dropped several passes and had trouble lining up in the correct spot.

Also according to Zinser, Ike Hilliard will not play against New Orleans -- he is also listed as doubtful -- but he has not given up hope of returning this season. He has been playing with a painful knee injury since the Giants victory over Minnesota on Oct. 26.

He has barely been able to practice since then. Earlier this week, he rolled up his sweatpants to show that his left knee was twice the size of his right one.

"Hell push through things, but at some point everybody has a stop point where they cant do it," head coach Jim Fassel said. "Hes got some bruising on the inside of the knee, some cartilage things wearing on him. The bottom line with Ike is he needs rest."

Even with all his missed playing time, Hilliard remains the teams leading receiver with 60 catches for 608 yards and 6 touchdowns. Carter had 26 catches for 309 yards.

Without them, the Giants have only Amani Toomer remaining from their original starting rotation at receiver. The rookie David Tyree will start in Hilliards place, and the rookie Willie Ponder will be the third receiver.
