The return of veteran punter Ken Walters, who was re-signed this week after being released the week before, is good news for Adam Vinatieri owners.
Vinatieri has long coveted Walter, who also serves as his holder on the field goal team. Last week, Vinatieri said that "[backup quarterback Damon] Huard does a good job, but he spends all practice with the quarterbacks."
An hour before practice began yesterday, Walter and new snapper Sean McDermott were practicing snaps in the locker room. McDermott said he sensed a comfort level.
"Im sure Adam has a lot of confidence in him after two years," said McDermott, who was signed to replace the injured Lonie Paxton. "Anytime you have confidence and continuity with someone its just going to help for him to come back and step right in."
Vinatieri said he was happy to see Walter back. "Absolutely," he said. "For selfish reasons, obviously. But I also think hell go out there with some new life and do all right."

In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly confirmed that Antowain Smith is not out of the picture in New England for the rest of the season, despite his game-day inactive status in Week 13.
The Patriots believe they can use Smiths straight-ahead style if they face a defense that is soft up front or if the weather is bad and the team must pound the ball repeatedly.
