How Do I Play Fantasy Football

"Traditional" fantasy football leagues involve a group of players - typically friends, relatives or co-workers - who all know each other and can discuss their successes and failures with each other every week.

But fantasy football is also a game that can easily be played online with a group of fellow football fans that you've never met. Leagues can be as large or small as you'd like. Generally, leagues for beginners have approximately 8-10 teams, but a league can be formed with just a handful of teams all the way up to a large group of 50 or more owners.

Regardless of how a league is formed, player selection is usually the most important part of the season. In draft based games, and in those cases where geography - and busy schedules - will allow, teams can be selected in person via a "draft", typically held at an owner's house, or some public venue capable of hosting a meeting.

Online leagues — or leagues where the owners are simply unable to get together in person - hold their drafts via the Internet. Over the past few years, technology has allowed the interfaces for online drafts to become much more user-friendly, meaning that beginners and experts alike can easily select an entire team in a short period of time.

to do that is to be out on the field."

Like Schottenheimer, Brees is hopeful his time on the sidelines will be beneficial when he re-takes the field on Sunday.

"I think, looking back on it now, and Im probably not going to appreciate this until maybe years from now. ... Who knows when Ill really, really appreciate it. ... But yeah, I think it helped," said Brees. "There is definitely a lot that I learned from sitting out. I think there is a lot that everybody learned by me sitting out. Im going to take the things that I did learn, and I know they are going to make me a better player."

Added Flutie: "Five years from now or whatever it is, looking back at this and Drew is winning football games and taking this team to the playoffs, everybody will understand."

The biggest lesson Brees learned was to keep things simple.

"For one, dont over-analyze things. Take what you know, believe in it, and go out and do it," said Brees. "Dont try and change the things that have made you successful from the very beginning."

Added Brees: "I will use the things that Ive learned from being out for five weeks. The main thing Ive learned is to believe in yourself and trust what youve done all along and just continue to do it and continue to build on it. Dont over-complicate things. Its a simple game. I know what Im doing. Ive been doing it for a long time. Im smart. I prepare well. I work hard out here. So theres no reason that I shouldnt go out and be successful."

Since making the decision to switch to Flutie five weeks ago, Schottenheimer has been taking a one-week-at-a-time approach to the quarterback situation. The head coach still feels that way, but if he plays well, Brees, who opened the season as the starter, will finish it that way, too.

"Drew Brees is our starting quarterback. Doug Flutie came in a tough situation. Were fortunate to have him, but Drew Brees is our starting quarterback," said Schottenheimer. "Hes gone through what any number of young quarterbacks will. I thought now was the appropriate time (to bring him back in)."

For the record, in
