The Panthers only signed Dyson to a one-year contract and hes not sure theyll want him back next season. With a history of injury -- he played just two games in 2000, bounced back to play all the 2001 season, but missed the final five games of last season -- Dyson knows hes got a lot to prove to any team that takes a gamble on him.
"Its going to be hard for me to play anywhere because I havent played," Dyson said. "Well see what happens and hopefully Ill have the opportunity to go somewhere. I still have a lot of football left, and Ive been out a whole year, so I am well-rested."
Dyson is also adamant he understands Carolinas offense. But that still doesnt help him climb the depth chart, which lists Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad and Ricky Proehl ahead of him. Karl Hankton also has an edge because he plays specials teams and Dyson does not, although he did field some punts at the end of practice on Thursday.
Because the passing game is secondary in Carolina, where the offense revolves around running back Stephen Davis, the receivers ahead of Dyson were fighting for balls even before he entered the mix.
"Its a tough offense for a receiver because there arent that many balls coming our way," said Smith, the leading receiver with 72 catches for 914 yards.
"Thats why Kevin cant break in there, because theres already three regular guys playing and not that many opportunities to begin with."

According to the Sports XChange, an angry Fox said Wednesday his intention wasnt to call out Muhammad for his mistake in Sunday nights overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
One local columnist went as far as to say Muhammad should be released because hes of no value to the Panthers.
"Well, let me make one thing perfectly clear, there were a lot of mistakes made that game by players, coaches, everybody," Fox said. "That one play did not win
