How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

a one-year contract on Friday.

Buckhalter is second to Brian Westbrook on the depth chart, but Westbrook is recovering from a torn triceps tendon that ended his season before the playoffs.

The 25-year-old Buckhalters importance to the Eagles rose when running back Duce Staley, who ranks third on the franchises all-time running list, signed a five-year contract with the Steelers last month.

A 2001 fourth-round pick out of Nebraska, Buckhalter had a career-high nine touchdowns in 2003. He rushed for 542 yards on 126 carries, starting six of his 15 games.

In 30 career games, Buckhalter has 1,128 rushing yards on 255 carries and 10 touchdowns. ...

In Dallas. ... The Cowboys want to trade Troy Hambrick, who failed in his bid to succeed Emmitt Smith as the clubs featured running back, his agent said Thursday.

According to Dallas Morning News beat man Jean-Jacques Taylor, team officials have had trade discussions with three teams, including Oakland, although Zereoues signing would seem likely to take the Raiders out of the running.

"I think thats something theyre trying to look at," Jordan Woy, Hambricks agent, told Taylor. "Ive talked to coach [Bill] Parcells, and were still not sure exactly whats going to happen. Would he like to stay with the Dallas Cowboys? Yes. But if hes not going to be given a real opportunity to compete, its in his best interests to play somewhere else."

Hambrick, a restricted free agent, has not signed the $628,000 contract that the Cowboys have tendered him. He is the clubs only restricted free agent not under contract.

Hambrick led the Cowboys with 972 yards and five touchdowns last season, but averaged only 3.5 yards per carry. He had only three runs longer than 20 yards.

Still, he had three 100-yard games, including a 189-yard performance in a December win over Washington, the third highest total in franchise history.

But Hambrick will turn 28 in November, and
