How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

Scott did not play in 2002 and then spent training camp with the Green Bay Packers in 2003 before being released prior to the season. Gone are the days Garcia of keeping his mouth shut, content to lead by example. Five years in San Francisco, which ended with very public criticism from star receiver Terrell Owens and a lack of on-field communication, have convinced Garcia he needs to be more assertive.

And according to Ridenour, this revamped approach has already begun as hes spent the past three weeks in Clevelands offseason program throwing to projected starters Quincy Morgan and Andre Davis.

"One of the things this opportunity brings to me is that I have become more vocal with my new teammates," Garcia said Tuesday. "At times in San Francisco I stood back and tried to lead through example, through working hard on the practice field and in the weight room; doing the necessary things I felt could lead to wins.

"Not only am I doing those things here now, but Ive also learned
