How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

took a pay cut of about $3.3 million to stay in Pittsburgh. His chief competition will come from Staley, who signed a five-year, $14 million contract with a $4 million signing bonus this year. Bettis has been assured by head coach Bill Cowher that he will get a fair chance at winning the job.

"The last few years I have been sharing the job," Bettis said. "Its not a situation where I look at it and say I am looking forward to it being mine and mine only. I kind of weaned myself through a lot of years working with other backs in there. Thats not a concern of mine at all right now."

Bettis lost his starting job last year to Amos Zereoue after only two preseason games, but regained it and ended up leading the Steelers with 811 yards rushing.

"Its one of those deals where I felt I was really coming on strong, unfortunately there werent any more games left," he said. "That was the tough part, to really get into a groove and then the season was over. That was frustrating for me because I knew coming into last season, I was in good shape."

He said he is no more inspired this season than he has been in past seasons.

"Its not hungrier than before," he said. "Its just hungry to show that its still there."

DiPaola added that Bettis returned to Pittsburgh after spending the past several weeks in Los Angeles working with his personal trainer, track coach Bob Kersee, who also was training several U.S. Olympic athletes.

"I had to slow him down," Bettis said. "I had to tell him I am not going to the Olympics, so calm down a little bit. ..."','04/13/2004','14:15','Tuesday'14069,2004,1068 6625,30,75,'Roundup: George In Limbo; Broncos Pursuing Northcutt & More','According to Nashville Tennessean staff writer Jim Wyatt, negotiations between team officials and veteran running back Eddie George are expected to resume soon, but if the talks go nowhere the Titans could release George after June 1, when they would get a break against the salary cap.
