The 1979 Hall of Fame Class consisted of the following members: Yale Lary who played for the Detroit Lions from 1952 - 1964, Johnny Unitas who played for the Baltimore Colts and San Diego Chargers from 1956 - 1973, Ron Mix who played for the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers from 1960 - 1972 and Dick Butkus who played for the Chicago Bears from 1965 - 1973.
